Based on the revised DOH Scope of Practice (Section 5.3.2.8 B) gingivectomy is considered a moderate to advanced periodontal procedure because it involves surgical removal of diseased gum tissue usually needed for periodontal pockets deeper than 5mm, excessive gingival overgrowth or conditions that cannot be managed with non surgical treatment….this procedure requires specialized skills to safely reshape the gums and prevent further disease progression which is why only periodontists or trained specialists are authorized to perform it.GP Dentist are limited to without deep pockets, significant bone loss or the need for surgery
